Songkran Trip | Around Chao Praya River

Chao Phraya River is the central water artery of Bangkok. The best way to enjoy Chao Phraya River is by swimming in it hopping on a boat. It's also a cheap way to take in the sights of Grand Palace, Wat Arun, Wat Pho, Asiatique (which provides free boat) and many tourist sights. You can take a public boats which used by locals for only 20 Baht. Don't do the overpriced boat tour because you will get the same views and you will get the local feel by using the public boats :P

Songkran Trip | Wat Arun

Wat Arun is one of the most popular temple in Bangkok. It is easy to spot this temple since it is located on Chao Praya riverside. It looks beautiful during the sunset and night, that's why it's known as Temple of The Dawn. Wat Arun is located near Wat Pho (I've been to Wat Pho on my previous trip to Thailand so I skip it).

How to get there: Take BTS to Saphan Taksin and go out through Exit No.2. Take a river boat (around 15-25Baht - I forgot) from Saphan Taksin that stops at pier 8. Take cross-river boat to Wat Arun (3.5Baht)
Entrance Fee: 100Baht

Songkran Trip | A Walk to Grand Palace

On the third day of our Songkran Trip, we were planning to visit Grand Palace. Unfortunely, on that day it was only opened for locals (and free!) but it's closed for foreigners :( 

Though, I can still get in to Grand Palace - maybe the guards thought that I'm a Thai. My friends couldn't get in because they didn't wear the dress code or the guards thought that they come from Myanmar, haha. So, we just took picture outside the gate and went to Wat Arun.

Dress code regulations in Grand Palace (or even any temples in Thailand)

• No flip flops
• No vest tops, tank tops or tight tops
• No pants or skirts that show ankles. Basically no mini skirts, shorts, 3/4 length pants, skinny pants, etc
• If you are not wearing the right dress code in Grand Palace, you can rent clothes but you have to pay - which is quite expensive (around 200Baht), I don't suggest this :P

How to Get There: Take BTS to Saphan Taksin and go out through Exit No.2. Take Chao Phraya River Boat  (around 15-25Baht - I forgot) to Pier 9 (Ta Chang Pier). Walk 5-10 minute through the market that will bring you to the entrance gate of Grand Palace.

Songkran, Bangkok

Last 13-17 April, I went to Bangkok with my friends to celebrate Songkran Festival, Thai's New Year. It was FUN! As fun as my Full Moon Party Trip in Koh Phangan.

If you're planning to go to Songkran next year, I have some notes for you :D

• Bring waterproof case for important stuff, there will be a lot sellers on the street so it's fine if you didn't bring it from home. It costs around 50-150 Baht according to the size.
• Hang your waterproof case inside your t-shirt, take care your own from pickpockets.
• Bring waterproof case for camera, if you really want to. (My Thai friend suggest me not to bring camera during the water war)
• Khao San Road, Siam Center area, Silom are the craziest and most crowded during Songkran. Go to Khao San Road at night -- it's already crazy at noon or night on regular day, so just imagine if you go there at night during Songkran! :P
• Have your water gun! People will shoot you with water gun even splash your body with buckets. It's better if you filled your gun with water ice. The water gun costs around 100-200 Baht according to the model and size.
• Check your itinerary, if you need to travel by BTS the whole day, you can buy one day pass BTS that will costs you 120 Baht - it will save your money. But, it's also fun to commute with bus - people will throw buckets at you from the street or even you will have "Fast and Furious water war" from Tuk-Tuk :D
• Indonesian, bring Tolak Angin in case you need it :))
• Just have FUN! Whatever happens in Bangkok stays in Bangkok haha

Our Itinerary:

Day 1 

- Shopping at Chatuchak Weekend Market and buying water gun (But you can find water gun everywhere around Bangkok if you arrived in Bangkok on weekdays.

- Shopping at Rod Fai Night Market, surprisingly the stuffs were cheaper than the one in Chatuchak! They also have cool cafes to hang out and vintage stuffs. It is not touristy place and full with locals, my favorite!

Day 2 

- Getting wet the whole day! :D

Day 3

After the crazy day, we plan to relax by visiting temples, haha! During Songkran, temple is the safest place to not getting attack by the water.

- We went to Grand Palace but unfortunately they closed it for foreigners and FREE for locals. Though, I can get in to Grand Palace, maybe the guards think that I'm a Thai, haha. But I get out from the Grand Palace as soon as I know that all my friends can't enter the gate.

- I haven't got chance to visit Wat Arun during my last trip to Thailand, and so my friends. Even they're not going to temples when they're in Bangkok, where were you going guys? haha! 

- Dinner and shopping at Asiatique

Day 4

- Sightseeing & shopping around Siam and Dinner at Chinatown

Day 5

- Heading to Singapore and going home.

It seems that we shopped a lot, but not really - we spent more time sightseeing and eating, haha. Unfortunately I didn't bring my camera during the first and second day, I'm afraid that my camera will be splashed with the water, I don't have waterproof case for camera and I really enjoy Songkran without taking pics :P

Full Moon Party Koh Phangan Survivor!

Throwing back to the most absurd-funniest-craziest trip last year to Singapore - Kuala Lumpur - Koh Phangan - Bangkok!

Bangkok

Visited touristy place like other people do, my favorite one is Bangkok Art & Culture Centre. Meet some peeps who still wearing neon tees (basian Full Moon Party ngumpul semua di Khao San Road). If you want to stay in an exotic hostel (eksotis buat bule, kalo kata gw mirip rumah2 di jawa haha), you can stay at Suk11 Hostel. I read about this hostel from one of my favorite travel blogger Nomadic Matt. They also have traditional Thai Restaurant in front of it with cheap & quite delicious dish, it's always full with tourists and locals. I should explore Bangkok more - next week for Songkran Trip :D

Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is an island between Koh Samui (busy & touristy island) and Koh Tao (diving and snorkeling spot). Koh Phangan is famous for its Full Moon Party. We researched a lot about Koh Phangan and found out bad things happened so we have to be careful. 

This island is literally a party island. There's always reason to have party everyday from Voodoo Party, Jungle Party, Foam Party, Boat Party, Black Moon Party, Half Moon Party and the biggest one is Full Moon Party. Fakir keriaan pasti bakal betah bener disini, kalo gw sih 3 hari juga cukup. It's funny that the province's main city, Surat Thani, is sooo quiet while Koh Phangan is so alive (alive at night but like a dead city in the afternoon, haha). You can easily find medical clinic, the number of clinics are as many as the bars :))

People from different countries come and unite here for the the music! *teet* *apeu*. Thousands of people flooded Haad Rin Beach with neon clothes and glow in the dark paintings. I'm not a fan of clubbing but I enjoyed Full Moon Party, I found DJs who play hardcore and drum&bass music, yay hehe... The party is not as crazy in a bad way like what people wrote in articles, you just have to control yourself. And we survived! You should go for once in a lifetime experience before you turn 30 ;D
